In 1888, King Kalakaua commissioned a magazine under royal charter to be Hawai‘i's ambassador to the world. For nearly a century, Paradise of the Pacific promoted the unique culture, natural beauty, business and events of Hawai‘i to the United States and beyond. In 1966, Paradise of the Pacific became HONOLULU Magazine and became a magazine by and for the people of the Islands.
Today, HONOLULU Magazine is the best-selling monthly magazine in Hawai‘i and is the oldest continuously produced publication west of the Mississippi. HONOLULU writes stories that matter, highlights the best in dining, events and more in the city and still celebrates the culture, heritage and lifestyle of the Islands.
